Gallery Submission Guidelines

So you want to send us photos of your costume masterpiece? That's great!

We'd love to show them in our Gallery. First, of course, there are the three main criteria for acceptance:

  1. The costume must be made, at least in the main part, by you.
  2. The costume, or significant parts thereof, must be made from Margo's patterns.
  3. We must receive a release form, indicating that both the model (if any) and the photographer give their consent to our use of the photographs here.

And now, a few additional criteria:

To keep bandwidth requirements under control, we ask that you try to keep the size of each photo file to about 100kb or less. If photos get much larger than that, we may resize or compress them, or ask you to do so, at our option. We are not setting a limit on the number of photos we will display here, but we reserve the right to refuse to publish photos for any reason.

If you need help in compressing photos, please click here. If you need general advice on photographing costumes, you can find quite a lot in Wayne Anderson's Guide to Photographing Costumes.

Please understand that we cannot publish recognizable photos of people who do not give their consent. We know, it's a nitpicking point, but it keeps us, and you, from getting in trouble because someone in the background didn't want to be seen.

For the release form, all you need to do is copy the Release text below and paste it into an email to us. Add the following to the email:

  1. Your name, and the name of the model or photographer, if other than yourself. (Indicate who's who, please!)
  2. What was made using Margo's patterns and instructions (or what wasn't, if that's easier!). Any special notes about fabrics, accessories, etc. Anything else you'd like us to know about the costume.
  3. If something on the costume was done by someone other than yourself (blackwork or embroidery, shoes or gloves, you know the sort of thing), please give their names so we can give credit where it's due.
  4. Let us know you're sending photographs to the Yahoo Group, and the name under which the photos will be saved.

Finally, join Margo's Yahoo Group if you haven't already. Go to the Photos section, and open the directory labeled Gallery Submissions. Create a new subdirectory there under your name, and go ahead an upload your photos. When we get your email, with all the information needed, we'll take a look at your photos and plan for adding them to the Gallery with the next update.
