Submitting your Masterpieces to our Gallery
Some of you may have had this distressing experience: You're downloading your email, and you realize that someone is sending you a big file. It might be a photo, or several photos. It might be a virus. It might be spam, or spyware.
In any case, I'm sure I'm not alone in hating long downloads when I don't know what's coming in. If you're sending me six glorious, perfectly lit, composed, and focused .jpgs of your costume -- and they're about 90kb each -- it's going to take a while, and I might not be in my best mood when they come in -- especially if four others did the same thing at the same time. So this is what I'd suggest, if you could find it in your hearts to do it:
Go to the Photos section of Margo's Yahoo group. There you'll find a subsection called Gallery Submissions. Inside that, create a new directory with your name on it, and upload your photos to that. Then email us and let us know you've submitted photos for use in the Gallery. Please give us as much data as you want published: At the very least, your name (the costumer), and the name of the photographer and/or any models appearing (if not yourself). Additional information would be welcome: what fabrics were used, special techniques involved, how long it took, how many cups of coffee were consumed, hours of sleep lost, etc. If somebody else made the shoes, please tell us who. If the sword was bought from a swordsmith, please tell us who. (Web links to suppliers are welcome, too!) Note that we may or may not use all of the information submitted, at our discretion, but any information submitted is considered fair for use (unless you specify otherwise).
How many photos should you send us? That depends -- how many good ones do you have? I'm willing to show ten, or even more, of one costume, provided that they're all good, and each shows significant and unique aspects of the work. We have a lot of web space available, so don't be shy -- if you look good, we look good!
Copyright Note: By submitting photos to our gallery, you represent that you either own the copyright (took the photographs), or have the permission of the copyright holder (the photographer) to do so, and you give your consent to our use of said photographs on our commercial website. The photographer retains the copyright to said photographs, and control of any further publication. Margo Anderson's Historic Costume Patterns will not transmit legal rights or consent to any other entity without your express permission, but, with the nature of the Internet being what it is, we can offer no guarantee that others will not copy the pictures for their own uses. We will not be liable or responsible for any uses of said photos beyond their appearances on our commercial website.
Model Release: By submitting your photos to the Gallery, you, and any persons appearing in the photos, give your consent to our use of your photos and likenesses on our commercial website. You accept full responsibility for the use of any likenesses of people appearing in your photos, and you make the representation that they have given their consent for this use. (No photographs of minors other than your own children, please!) You further consent to our use of any information provided, which may or may not be directly quoted. You agree to give this consent gratis, with no expectation of compensation or remuneration of any kind. Submission of any photos for use in our Gallery signifies your acceptance of these terms.
Sorry. We hate the legal BS too, but we have to do it, to protect ourselves and you.
